Yeah, yeah – “New year, New you”.
It’s a popular motto at the mo, and we get it. January is a fresh start, the perfect chance for a little self-improvement. But does that really mean you need to join the gym…?
Millions of people join the ‘gym rush’ at this time of year. But the reality is, 50% of those well-intentioned people quit within 6 months. And as for the rest? Most will buy all the gym gear, keep paying for the membership, but won’t ever actually go.
With the average gym costing £40 a month, that’s a lot of money going to waste!
Be honest with yourself – would you stick with it? Get up at 6am on a cold, dark morning? Do a 10k run on the treadmill before your 9-5?
If you’re not sure, our advice is simple. Just don’t bother.
Use that disposable cash to buy something useful – like a TV subscription and our loungewear! January isn’t the month for gym-ing. It’s the month for battening down the hatches. So why not stay at home (lockdown-style), get super cosy and reconsider your resolutions for 2023?
The essential loungewear kit for January
Because this is no time for skin-tight lycra.
Gym wear item #1 – gym leggings
Loungewear alternative – Lounge pants
After a month of belly-bulging dinners, who can squeeze into those high-rise, figure-hugging gym leggings anyway? If you value your ability to breathe, treat yourself to some lounge pants instead.
Specifically, the super stretchy kind that are available in our loungewear collection.
Made from ultra-soft cotton jersey with a generous woven waistband (that gives), they have a relaxed fit – perfect for lazy days at home when comfort is key. Grab the leftover chocs, pop on your fave box set and slouch on the couch. You have our permission to go into full hibernation mode.
Gym wear item #2 – a quick-dry zip top
Loungewear alternative – a cosy hoodie (or an ‘oodie’)
You know the type of top we’re talking about.
Body contoured, with a zipped funnel collar and made from a thin sweat-wicking fabric. Admittedly, they’re great for a HIIT workout. But in terms of warmth and cosiness and roominess? They don’t come anywhere close to the men’s and women’s hoodies in our loungewear range – especially those with a borg lining!
Made from a soft cotton blend, with plush sherpa-style fleece on the inside, they’re like a personal radiator disguised as clothes. Layer one over a t-shirt and sit yourself down in a cosy reading nook.
Or to really up the cushy stakes, why not invest in one of our oversized, wearable blankets (aka. an oodie)? Offering the same level of snugness as a onesie (whilst being a tad more practical), they’re the complete opposite of a quick-dry zip-up gym top…
Not recommend for use on a treadmill. Sweating highly likely.
Gym wear item #3 – a pair of trainers
Loungewear alternative – slippers
December can be a tough month for your feet.
Lots of standing up at parties. Bravely (or stupidly) wearing heels to your Christmas doo – when it’s -10˚C and snowing! Dancing until the small hours of the morning on New Year’s Eve.
The last thing they want now is to be forced into brand new trainers. Trust us, what they really want (and 100% deserve) is a pair of dreamy, fluffy slippers from Tokyo Laundry.
Mule-shaped, with either a fleece or faux suede outer and lined with either faux fur or sherpa fleece. Both our slippers for men and women are designed with ultimate warmth and comfort in mind – especially when they’re combined with thick, snuggly socks. Think walking-on-a-cloud vibes.
Whether you’re catching up on Love Island or doing admin at your stand-up desk, hop on your new walking pad (we know TikTok made you do it 😉) and clock up 10,000 steps in comfort.
No blister plasters required.
Buy loungewear (not a gym membership) this Jan
Don’t be one of the millions currently wasting money on a plastic card they’ll never use.
It’s perfectly acceptable to spend January getting cosy. So forget about improving your fitness or shedding those festive pounds (for now, at least). And make it your new year’s resolution to invest your money wisely – on some new cosy loungewear – and treat yourself to a little downtime.
Much more doable than early morning workouts.
