Ever wondered what’s the best way to fold underwear?
Surprisingly, you’re not alone. Hundreds of people type ‘how to fold underwear’ into Google every month – searching for the perfect way to organise their pants and save space. So, as a leading brand for boxers, briefs and thongs, we thought it was about time we answered this burning question.
It’s all about the KonMari MethodTM
Of course, there are numerous ways to fold underwear – from rolling them up tightly to folding them loosely down the middle. But our favourite method, by far, is the KonMariTM method.
This is a simple technique, first introduced by the bestselling author and tidying expert, Marie Kondo. Kondo believes the key to folding underwear is to transform each pair of pants into the shape of a rectangle or square. That way, rather than being haphazardly thrown in the drawer, they can be stood upright and side-by-side.
Not only does the KonMariTM method prevent creases, it allows you to see all of your underwear at the same time. Getting dressed in the morning will never have been so easy. And the best bit? It can be achieved in just five simple steps.
The KonMariTM Folding Method
Step 1: Place the underwear on a flat surface
It doesn’t matter whether you’re folding men’s boxers, women’s hipster briefs or something a little skimpier. First things first, you should place the underwear down on a flat surface (such as the bed, sofa or dressing table) – with the front of the garment facing up towards you.
At this point, it’s also a good idea to smooth out any wrinkles in the fabric by hand.
Step 2: Fold the underwear in half
Lift the bottom edge of the crotch until it reaches the top of the waistband. This creates a horizontal fold in the middle of the garment. Once again, smooth the fabric down with your hand.
Step 3: Flip in the left side
Next, fold the left side of the underwear, until it reaches the innermost edge of the right leg hole.
Step 4: Fold over the right side
Repeat step three, but on the other side of the garment – folding in the right side to cover the left. At this point, the underwear should now be folded into thirds.
One way to check you’re on the right track is to imagine a business letter that has been folded to put inside a business-sized envelope.
Step 5: Complete the rectangle
Lastly, you should bring the crotch up towards the waistband for a second time, making one final horizontal fold in the garment and creating the desired rectangular (or square) shape.
