Essential uni outfits for 2020

So, you’re starting uni this year and don’t know what to wear?

With all the stress of ‘faux’ exam results and clearance, buying new clothes won’t have been a priority and time is running out. But don’t worry. We’ve got your back – with ‘uni outfits’ that are perfect for a 2020 style freshers’ week, virtual online lectures and those inevitable hangover days.

uni clothes and accessories available at Tokyo Laundry

Our online men’s and women’s range is currently bursting at the seams with uni clothing essentials. So, why not have a little style refresh and prep your wardrobe before you head to campus?

Basic necessities

Uni is a fresh start. The perfect time to get rid of the old and bring in the new, particularly when it comes to your underwear drawer – and you’re in the perfect place to stock up on the basics.

Our men’s boxer shorts are an absolute steal, with six pairs available for just £20. Ladies can also bag three sets of thongs or hipster briefs for the same price. They’re comfortable, flattering and have a sexy slim-fit. And the best bit? You’ll still have a few pennies left over for takeaways and beer.

Lazy days in halls

For the days when you’ve got no lectures – and that 1000 word essay can wait until next week – we’ve also got you covered. Our men’s department is renowned for its super-comfy loungewear and jogging bottoms (all perfect for Netflix and chill moments on the sofa…). You can also stock up on three basic short-sleeved tees for just £12, ideal for layering under a hoodie on chilly days.

Girls can also doss relax in style, with two-piece matching lounge sets, stretchy joggers and sweatshirts. Our advice? Go a size up and ensure your uni clothing is as cosy and snuggly as possible!

Lecture outfits

Most universities have pulled the plug on lectures (at least for semester one). But you’ll still be heading to socially-distanced seminars and meeting course mates via Zoom. So, unfortunately, you will need to get dressed at some point – and you’ll want to look your best, right?

Boys, we recommend teaming a jumper – perhaps by Kensington Eastside – or a long-sleeved polo with a pair of skinny jeans. It’s understated and effortlessly cool. The same goes for girls. Invest in a chunky knit by Amara Reya, style with leggings and a couple of accessories, and you’re good to go.

BNO styles

Freshers’ week isn’t going to be the same this year. Most events are likely to have been postponed and – with the clubs still shut – your BNO will be with a small group of people at the local pub.

But, the good news is, we have the perfect ‘uni outfit’.

Our men’s department is stocked up with checked shirts that are perfect for the occasion. Either button it up to the top, or wear it open with a basic tee and roll up the sleeves. Alternatively, you could style a simple long-sleeved jersey with jeans and casually tuck it in at the front.

For ladies, the solution is simple. A short-sleeved slogan t-shirt should become your best friend – and our store is loaded up with on-point styles. From cute pastel shades to bright pops of colour, we have it all, and you can snap up three for just £20. Simply pair with high-waisted skinnies and pumps.

Another option is a jumper dress. It may seem a little too casual for a night out. But to nail this student look, simply team it up with a pair of high heel boots and pull it in at the waist with a belt.
